Plan and no plan
My son is out on his motorcycle, capturing the devastation in LA—homes and businesses destroyed, lives lost. The raw, relentless force of fire and wind tearing through everything in its path, affecting so many.
My son, his partner, and my daughter, who recently moved to LA, are safe for now. This moment is a stark reminder of how quickly life can shift.
Sending love and prayers to everyone affected by the fires in LA. A huge thank you to all the first responders for your courage and strength, and to everyone doing what they can to help.
In moments like these, it becomes clear what truly matters and what we can rely on within ourselves. Prioritize that which never wavers within you. Feel it deeply; it’s your innate power to know, your awareness, your felt sense of simply being. Moment by moment, ‘that’ is always with you. Trust in it—it’s your go-to, always on, always present, your timeless security.
Nature’s energy is powerful, and it is also a part of you. Your strength is inherent.
This morning, I changed the newsletter to respond to the time, place, and circumstance. This shift is about recognizing the raw reality of the moment.
Continue to know yourself as clear, bright, and strong, ready for action. Practices like yoga, meditation, and being with nature help us confirm our true nature—one of warmth and resilience, no matter what life throws our way.
When you’re ready, return to the original focus of this newsletter below—plan and no plan, be ready to pivot. These insights are here for you.
Plan and no plan.
A friend recently asked me, “Do you have a business plan for 2025?”
My response: “No.” Then as I sat with it, I realized how practical it might be to have one.
Plans are helpful—they provide direction and can keep us focused.
—And life flows, plans change, and we find ourselves adapting.
Beneficial intention always leads the way, regardless.
When you align with your natural gifts, strengths, with a clear heart and mind, every choice becomes one of benefit—to yourself and others.
So yes, make a plan if it feels supportive. Feel into your heart intention.
Also, be ready to pivot.
Be ready to respond with an open heart and mind to the particular time, place, and circumstance. Stay flexible.
You are never “off track”—every direction offers something valuable.
Stay open to new possibilities and opportunities that arise. If you feel the need to shift, give yourself permission, it’s a permission field after all. It’s okay to pause or change course. Trust that each step, planned or unplanned, holds its own gems.
Align with Your True Nature
Alignment isn’t something we have to force—it’s about familiarizing ourselves with who we already are, complete and whole. Relax into your natural state of being when you remember to do so.
Here’s the simplicity of how:
Daily Self-Care: Make time to care for yourself, even in small ways.
Quiet Meditation: Create space for morning meditation, listen and feel.
Nature Walks: Spend time outside. Nature has a way of grounding us.
Movement: Whether it’s yoga, dance, or another practice, move in ways that feel good and reconnect you to your body.
TRUST AND PERCEPTUAL OPENNESS
In these times of uncertainty, trust in nature’s intelligence.
You are self-kept.
It’s okay to feel it all, we are meant to. We are in this together, and yet, it is unique to each.
Everything is happening at the same time. Pause. Grok that.
Stay open in your perceptions of what you think everything is or isn’t.
Loosen up any learned descriptions or old ideas and rest deeply in the moment. Feel.
I like the term complete perceptual openness in the moment, which I learned from my Root Teacher, Ziji Rinpoche. Resting deeply, take pause in the moment, stay open in your mind and heart, especially with others.
Begin each day with this practice:
Sit quietly and connect with gratitude. Let the breath be as it is, simply feeling its natural rhythm. Take a few deep breaths, or allow your breathing to continue naturally. Then, simply let it be. We are all here, sharing in this collective experience, feeling many of the same things together.
Yoga:
Here’s a silent 10-minute yoga video to move through each morning after meditation.
Refrigerator Notes:
Note to self: print this section and stick it on your fridge.
Spontaneous Responsiveness:
Plans change—stay open to new opportunities.
Beneficial intent holds the course.
When you align with your natural gifts and strengths, actions flow effortlessly, serving both yourself and others.Stay Flexible:
Remain open-hearted and open-minded in the moment.
Listen deeply. Feel deeply.
Let people be as they are.
Don’t micromanage people, places, and things. Keep the focus on yourself and take great care.
Take full responsibility for your actions.Pause and Breathe:
Rest, relax.
Do one thing at a time—you have time.
Savor the fullness that is already given.
Slow down and breathe.
Find reprieve in small moments during the day.
Feel the open spaciousness of your heart and mind by relaxing with all thoughts, feelings, and emotions moment to moment.
Sending love for an easeful and beneficial 2025.
